MKV TRANSPORTATION REQUEST PROCESS - WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT 🚌
- Once a student has been approved for McKinney-Vento (MKV) services and is actively enrolled in school, the MKV Office will submit this transportation request to the PWCS Specialized Transportation Team.
- Please allow approximately 3–5 business days after the transportation team receives the request to develop and implement a transportation plan.
- If your student misses school while transportation arrangements are being made, please notify the school so the absences may be excused.
- Transportation services must be used consistently and on time. Transportation that is not regularly utilized may be discontinued. If transportation is canceled and the student is unable to attend school regularly and arrive on time, a Best Interest Determination (BID) meeting may be scheduled to discuss the student's school placement.
- If your student moves to a new address, you must submit a new MKV Transportation Request Form. This will allow the current transportation plan to be canceled and a new plan to be developed. Please note that once the new request is received by the PWCS Specialized Transportation Team, it will take another 3–5 or more business days to establish transportation services.
- Email is the primary method of communication. Please monitor your email regularly, including your spam/junk folders, for messages from PWCS. Transportation plans will be sent to the email address(es) provided on this form.
- All students utilizing transportation services (school buses/vans and private vehicle services) must agree to the PWCS Transportation Code of Behavior.
MKV TRANSPORTATION QUESTIONS & ANSWERS:Does the student need to be approved for MKV status prior to requesting MKV transportation services?
- Yes. The student must be approved for MKV status in order to request MKV transportation services.
- If the student is not yet approved for MKV status for this 2026-27 school year, please complete/submit the MKV Eligibility Form for us to make a determination. (As a reminder, the MKV approval status does not automatically roll over to the next school year.)
- If MKV transportation services need to be changed/canceled, please only submit a new MKV Transportation Form ... please do not submit a new MKV Eligibility Form as the student has already been approved for MKV status for the remainder of the school year.
Are MKV transportation services available any time other than the school's bell schedule?
- No. MKV transportation services can only be setup according to the school's bell schedule.
- The MKV program is not able to provide transportation for extracurricular activities/events/sports or field trips outside of school hours.
Can MKV transportation services be provided to/from a location other than the student's residence and school?
- Possibly. MKV transportation services are not guaranteed for any location other than between the student's school and the student's residence.
- The MKV program is only required to provide transportation between the student's residence (where the student is sleeping at night) and the student's school, if determined to be reasonable and in the student's best interest. Transportation to/from the student's residence is not door-to-door service. It is compatible to the same service that non-MKV students receive.
Are MKV transportation services available when a MKV student moves into permanent housing during the school year?
- A MKV student has the right to complete the school year in their school of origin. To request MKV transportation services, a MKV Transportation Form should be completed/submitted which will be reviewed by the MKV staff.
What mode of transportation will be used?
- If a school bus or van is unavailable for the route, the transportation team will explore alternative options such as a contracted private vehicle service. When possible, disability school buses may be used because they offer great flexibility in routing. The transportation team does not accept requests for a specific mode of transportation. Decisions are based on availability and operational feasibility. The transportation team reserves the right to modify the assigned mode of transportation at any time during the school year.
Who can complete this form for the MKV student?
- The student's parent, legal custodian, caregiver/sponsor, or homeless unaccompanied youth student.
- Or, with the knowledge of the parent/caregiver/HUY student, this form can be completed by school staff, shelter/transitional housing staff or other representatives for the student/family.

⚠️ We are experiencing an extremely high number of McKinney-Vento (MKV) Eligibility Forms and MKV Transportation Forms being submitted, and we are processing them in the order in which they are received. Once a student is approved for MKV status, then we are able to begin processing transportation requests. If we are able to setup transportation, it generally takes the team 3-5 work days to develop a plan and start services; however, due to the increase in requests, it may take longer. Transportation is working diligently to fulfill requests as quick as possible.

After a student is approved for MKV (and actively enrolled in school), the MKV office will then be able to submit the transportation request to the PWCS Specialized Transportation Team. After the team receives that request from the MKV office, then it takes the team 3-5+ workdays to develop a plan and start transportation services.
