CAASPP and ELPAC Special Request For Paper Exams

CAASPP and ELPAC Special Request for Paper Exams

Dear LEA CAASPP or LEA ELPAC Coordinator:

The tests that make up the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP), the Initial English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC), and the Summative ELPAC, are to be administered online, as computer-based assessments. California’s local educational agencies (LEAs) have made computer-based testing available to all students, as required in the California Code of Regulations, Title 5 (5 CCR), Section 853(b) for CAASPP; and 5 CCR, sections 11518.5(d) and 11518.15(b) for the Initial and Summative ELPAC.

However, in some situations, students may face barriers when taking a computer-based assessment. If any student with an individualized education program (IEP) or Section 504 plan requires the student be tested using a braille, large-print, or general paper–pencil test, please complete this online form. The California Department of Education (CDE) and the ETS CAASPP and ELPAC teams will review and respond to each request.

Braille graphics packages are also available to be ordered for certain tests, including a braille hybrid adaptive test (HAT) for the Smarter Balanced for Mathematics and the optional, supplemental tactile graphics package for the California Science Test (CAST). Either package can be ordered for a student to minimize the amount of embossing that must be done during either Smarter Balanced mathematics or CAST testing. Order these braille graphics packages using the Request for Braille Graphics Packages for Math/Science Hybrid Adaptive Tests (HAT) form.

For any questions about requesting paper–pencil testing materials, please contact CalTAC at 800-955-2954 or the LEA Success Agent for this LEA.
