The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is seeking suggestions for experts to participate in a new standing committee to explore the future of large-scale experimental characterization capabilities for the Department of Energy's Basic Energy Sciences (DOE BES) user facilities. This standing committee will organize a series of workshops and other community engagement events to consider future (1) science drivers, (2) large-scale experimental capabilities, including integrated synthesis, fabrication, characterization, and data capabilities, and (3) potential options for expanding available scientific infrastructure, with the goal of informing the DOE BES user facilities mission beyond 2035.
Using these suggestions, National Academies staff will be looking to build a committee of approximately 15 volunteer experts in addition to collecting information for potential speakers, participants, and peer reviewers for any publications resulting from the activity. Nominations of early-career and international scientists are welcome!
