The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is seeking suggestions for experts to participate in the new study on literacy across the life course. This study will examine the current state of literacy across the life span with attention to what is known about the different educational contexts in which individuals develop literacy and the influence of digital tools on literacy. The study will also examine promising programs to improve literacy and detail the implications of literacy for global competitiveness and national security.
Using these suggestions, National Academies staff will be looking to build a committee of approximately 12 volunteer experts in addition to collecting information for potential speakers, participants, and peer reviewers for any publications resulting from the activity.
