The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is seeking suggestions for experts to participate in a new consensus study on interventions for preventing cognitive decline and dementia. The committee will examine the current state of the evidence on interventions for 1) preventing, slowing, or delaying the onset of mild cognitive impairment; 2) preventing, slowing, or delaying the onset of clinical Alzheimer's and related dementias (e.g., Lewy body, vascular, frontotemporal disorders, mixed dementias); and 3) delaying or slowing age-related cognitive decline. The committee's report will include its conclusions and recommendations to inform public health messaging and future research.
Using these suggestions, National Academies staff will be looking to build a committee of approximately 14-18 volunteer experts, as well as inform potential speakers, participants, and peer reviewers for any public meetings and associated publications resulting from the activity.
Based on the Statement of Task, staff are looking for expertise in the following areas:
- clinical research on cognitive impairment and dementia
- pharmacological interventions for preventing cognitive impairment and dementia
- nonpharmacological interventions for preventing cognitive impairment and dementia
- cognitive aging and health
- epidemiology
- geriatrics
- behavioral and social sciences
- systematic review methodology
- public health and health communication
