It’s time to update New York’s Statewide Historic Preservation plan! The NYS Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) – part of the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation – needs your input.
Your input today will assist the SHPO in creating a responsive, forward-thinking plan that will serve communities and counties across the state for the next seven (7) years, helping to protect and celebrate places, objects, and stories with significance from Niagara to Nassau County and from St. Lawrence to Suffolk County.
This state plan provides guidance for decision-making about historic, archaeological, and cultural resources to organizations, municipalities, and agencies across New York. It identifies historic preservation challenges unique to New York, outlines realistic goals to meet those challenges, and inspires communities to take action.
While the SHPO takes the lead in developing the plan, the document itself is the result of partnership and collaboration between SHPO staff, the wider preservation community, and the general population of New York.
This survey is intended to be completed by individuals whose professional work impacts historic, archaeological, and cultural resources (preservationists, historians, Indigenous communities and organizations, masons, city planners, museum archivists, developers, etc.) as well as community members interested in or engaged with preservation-related activities (historic homeowners, museum docent/volunteers, elected officials, etc.).
You must be 18 years or older to take this survey. This question requires a valid number format.
