Salt Lake City School District Community Conversations

Community Conversations

The Salt Lake City School District is conducting a feasibility study to determine the best future use for three closed school properties:

  • Mary Jackson Elementary - 750 W 200 N
  • M. Lynn Bennion Elementary - 429 S 800 E
  • Hawthorne Elementary - 1675 S 600 E

These schools closed in 2024 following evaluation of enrollment trends, facility conditions, and district needs. This feasiblity study will help the District decide whether to repurpose these properties or declare them surplus under state law.

Community input is essential to this process. We're holding two community conversations to answer your questions and gather feedback on these properties' future. Please share questions you'd like addressed at the sessions—your input will help shape decisions that affect our neighborhoods. The community conversations will focus on all three sites and will be held at the following locations:

  • Wednesday, September 9th at Liberty Elementary from 4:00 – 5:30 PM
  • Thursday, September 10th at Rose Park Elementary from 6:30 - 8:00PM.

All responses are completely anonymous and confidential. No identifying information will be collected.
