Trip Agreement - 2027 Cotswolds & Cotswold Way

3. Preparedness: I understand that this trip demands exceptional aerobic conditioning, balance, and the necessary skills and equipment to confidently and effectively hike 12 consecutive days, with 10 days averaging about 9–12 miles. Additionally, we’ll be climbing approximately 12,065 feet over these 12 days. While there are no mountains or scrambling involved, we’ll encounter some challenging hills on well-maintained paths that may become muddy after a rain shower. The most demanding day is from Selsley to Wotton-under-Edge, which is 13 miles long, with a climb of 2,050 feet and a descent of 2,100 feet. Our pace will be between 1.75-2.5 (slower up and faster down, and moderate along the rolling hills).

4. Route: I understand that the Cotswolds and the Cotswold Way are characterized by thick mud and heavy, slippery clay, requiring robust waterproof footwear. Hikers must navigate steep hill ascents and valleys along the escarpments, alongside numerous ACTIVE livestock pastures and agricultural fields, and wooden stiles. Navigating the rapidly changing English weather and overgrown vegetation completes the primary trail challenges. I certify that I am capable of maintaining a steady pace of 1.5-2.5 mph (average 2.0 mph) across this type of terrain and will be happy to provide references who can attest to my confidence in navigating such challenging conditions.

5. Accommodations: I understand that we will be staying in traditional inns, guesthouses, and hotels, all of which are twin-share or double occupancy. If I don’t pre-select a roommate for the duration of the trip, I will be sharing a bedroom with another person (on a rotation basis) in our party, whom I may not initially know.

6. Food: I understand that the variety of food available and the ability to meet special dietary preferences will be limited.

7. Travel Documents: I understand that I will be required to hold up-to-date travel documents, international medical insurance, and emergency evacuation insurance for the trip, at my own expense. The evacuation insurance should be sufficient to get me back to the hospital of my choice in the United States.

8. Teamwork: I understand that this is a group trip and that participants will look out for and support each other on the trail. Pace, daily start-end times, route, and side trips will be driven by the needs of the group and conditions on the ground.

9. Leadership: I understand that the safety and well-being of participants come first, and the itinerary and route may change without prior notice based on conditions. While participant input will be valued, the Mountaineers' trip leader will be the ultimate decision maker.

10. Responsibility: I understand that the Mountaineers' trip leaders are not guides and that I am responsible for knowing the route and where I am along the way at all times.

Fitness and Medical Conditions: I commit to providing a doctor’s certification of medical fitness if requested, and to disclose to the leader and outfitter in advance of the trip about any recent injuries, surgeries, allergies, medications, or medical conditions that could impact me on the trip.

12. Behavior: During the trip, I commit to behaving responsibly and safely. I will promptly inform the leader about any illness or injury. My health and safety, as well as the safety of my fellow group members, will always come first, even if it means turning around or exiting the trip early.

I commit to follow the Mountaineers Global Adventures Respiratory Illness policy to support everyone in the group staying healthy and not passing illness on to other group members during the trip!

Participants and leader(s) must be fully vaccinated to participate in the trip. This includes the most recent boosters that the participant is eligible for.
In addition, participants are asked to practice conservative COVID behavior before and during transit to the trip, including masking at the airport and on planes and avoiding crowded indoor spaces whenever possible.
Participants and leader(s) are expected to self-test proactively during the trip if they experience a symptom commonly related to COVID. Participants will need to let the leader know so that the leader can monitor. Any positive test or significant contagious symptoms will mean that the participant will need to wear a mask and isolate from the rest of the group members as much as possible until they no longer have a fever and their symptoms have mostly gone away (this could include moving them, or their roommate, out of a shared hotel room or tent, or temporarily tripling-up another room with their roommate, or if symptoms are severe enough, may be asked to stay at a nearby lodging while the group goes on.).

I understand that, in general, refunds will not be available once I have paid my deposit and registered for the trip. I further understand that, if I must cancel but can find a qualified replacement well in advance of the trip departure (30 days), I may be able to get a refund of some or all of my prior trip payments less a $250 administrative fee and any non-refundable or incremental costs associated with your cancellation; this option is only available up to a month before the trip departs, after which I will not be eligible for any refund.
