In connection with the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, Preferred by Nature aims to keep supporting organisations in strengthening their restoration efforts by providing a structured yet practical approach for verifying field performance.
The Ecosystem Restoration Standard is designed to assess whether restoration efforts are technically sound and environmentally, socially, and economically appropriate. It is intended for a wide range of users, including restoration practitioners, government agencies, investors, supporting organisations, and affected stakeholders.
Development of the Standard began in 2018. With support from The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and the World Resources Institute (WRI), a new version was finalized in 2021 following a first round of field testing and issuance of the first certificate. Five years after, and with support from the EU Horizon-funded project Eco2Adapt, we are initiating a revision process where we are mainly adding new modules on Biodiversity, Climate Change Adaptation, and Wildfire Resilience
This Standard contributes to Preferred by Nature’s mission to promote land management and business practices that benefit people, nature, and climate.
