Universal Mental Health Screening Learning Lab Application

Universal Mental Health Screening Learning Lab Application

We are pleased you are considering the Universal Mental Health Screening Learning Lab (UMHSLL). UMHSLL is a professional development program that helps districts establish high-quality mental health screening systems in their schools. It is designed to help districts move from initial planning to full implementation by starting small before building toward screening entire grade levels and schools.

Through this three-year program, district teams will:
  • Pilot and refine the use of mental health screening tools
  • Scale pilots to carry out schoolwide screening
  • Receive targeted coaching and access to practical tools and resources
  • Learn alongside other mental health practitioners from across the country
Click here for the 2026-27 UMHSLL calendar.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The program will launch in the fall and continue throughout the school year with ongoing learning, coaching, and implementation support. Districts will move from foundational learning to full-scale implementation through a phased, step-by-step approach to universal mental health screening. Districts will pilot screening processes, use continuous improvement cycles to refine implementation, and gradually scale screening across grade levels and schools. Thriving Minds will provide ongoing coaching, Professional Learning Communities, and practical implementation resources—including screening tools, communication templates, consent forms, data tools, referral pathways, and crisis-response guidance—to support safe and effective implementation.

PROGRAM FEES

The cost of district participation is $10,000 in Year 1, $7,500 in Year 2, and $5,000 in Year 3. This tiered structure provides sustained support as districts launch universal screening, strengthen implementation over time, and engage in a national peer learning network.

By submitting this application, districts commit to paying the Year 1 program fee and participating in the first year of the program. At the end of Year 1, you will have the choice of whether to commit for Year 2 and pay the associated fee for that year. While we recognize continued participation after Year 1 may not be feasible for all districts, we encourage districts to join for the full three-year cycle in order to support the full implementation of mental health screening processes.

To ensure district commitment and support program delivery, the participation fees listed above are fixed and cannot be reduced. That said, we recognize that district budgeting processes can be complex, and we are happy to work with districts on payment timing and scheduling. For more information, please contact Amanda Chung.
