GenAI Usage in the Performing Arts

Hello! Thank you so much for your interest in participating in this study of the impacts of AI on performing artists, conducted by SMU DataArts and Annie Dorsen as part of Artists Make Technology, a collaborative initiative anchored by Mozilla Foundation and the Doris Duke Foundation, in partnership with the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, with additional support from the Ford Foundation.

The survey includes questions about the real-world impacts of generative AI (GenAI) on artists' work, incomes, and creative futures. This study is not focused on student use of GenAI; it is not for AI developers who may be attempting to introduce new products to the performing arts sector; the study is not focused on the recording of performances or Gen AI use by performing arts managers or administrators

Your voice truly matters. What you share will help shape how we understand the ways in which GenAI tools are affecting professional performing artists, potentially driving critical policy and support for artists navigating the challenges of the GenAI era. Data Collection & Confidentiality:

This survey is anonymous as it does not collect names, emails, and other personally identifiable information. Respondents are not required to respond to demographic or socioeconomic questions.  The data collected through the survey in this work will be hosted by SMU DataArts and then transferred to Mozilla Foundation, Doris Duke Foundation, Artists Make Technology CoLab (ATMC) and Annie Dorsen. Your privacy and confidentiality are important to us. We’ll never publicly share any information that could be used to identify your specific response.
