Thank you for participating in the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office International Education Landscape Survey. This survey is designed to better understand the international and global education activities, partnerships, programs, and services currently offered across the California Community Colleges. The information collected will help identify existing efforts, promising practices, opportunities for collaboration, and statewide support needs as the Chancellor's Office implements its International Education Workplan.

Definitions
To ensure a common understanding, definitions of key terms used throughout the survey are provided below. We encourage responses that reflect the full range of international and global education activities taking place at your institution.

International Education
Educational activities, programs, partnerships, and services that engage students, faculty, and staff across national borders to promote intercultural understanding, global collaboration, and international learning. International education includes, but is not limited to, international student services, study abroad, international partnerships, faculty exchanges, collaborative research, and globally focused curriculum.
Global Education
The integration of global perspectives, intercultural competence, and international issues into teaching, learning, student support, and campus life. Global education prepares students to live, work, and lead in an interconnected world and may occur with or without direct interaction across national borders.
Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL)
A teaching and learning approach that connects students and faculty in different countries through structured, technology-enabled collaboration as part of a course. COIL emphasizes shared learning experiences, intercultural dialogue, and collaborative projects without requiring international travel.
Traditional Study Abroad
An educational experience in which students travel to another country to participate in academic coursework, experiential learning, internships, service learning, research, or other structured educational activities. Programs may range from short-term faculty-led experiences to semester- or year-long exchanges.
Virtual Study Abroad
A fully online international learning experience that enables students to engage with institutions, faculty, peers, organizations, or communities in another country without traveling. Virtual study abroad may include online coursework, collaborative projects, internships, cultural programming, or other structured international experiences.
Hybrid Models of Study Abroad
Educational experiences that intentionally combine virtual and in-person international learning. Hybrid models may include pre-departure online collaboration, virtual coursework before or after travel, or ongoing international engagement that complements a shorter in-country experience, expanding access while enhancing learning outcomes.
