The Office is now accepting applications for practitioners, researchers, and other healthcare professionals with subject matter expertise to become members of the Council. To ensure your application is reviewed in a timely manner, please review all submission requirements before beginning your application. The application period will close on 05/01/2026.

General Application Information

1. The applicant may withdraw their name from consideration at any time. Withdrawal of an application is without prejudice to re-filing the application. If an applicant wishes to resubmit an application at a future time, a new application will need to be submitted to the Office.

2. All applications will be assessed for completion, accuracy, and proof of adequate credentials.

3. Council members will be selected based on subject matter expertise, professional experience, and commitment to clinical cannabis care.

4. Members will be selected with consideration of diverse representation across the Council.

5. Applicants will be contacted by e-mail if they have been selected as a New York State Medical Advisory Council Member.

The objectives of the Council are as follows:

1. Develop clinical coursework. Activities may include creating and reviewing medical curricula, cannabis education resources, and developing supplemental training modules that integrate cannabis-related care and culturally competent approaches.

2. Develop clinical tools. Activities may include developing and reviewing standardized screening and assessment tools, treatment protocols, documentation and billing practices, and resource lists.

3. Support practitioners educating patients. Activities may include aggregating scientific literature, disseminating harm reduction assets, and developing educational print material that prioritizes non-stigmatizing patient-centered guidance.

The application and selection process will prioritize subject matter experts across a range of clinical and academic specialties and encourage diversity representative of State demographics. Up to 13 individuals, including practitioners, researchers, and other healthcare professionals will be selected to serve on the Council. Applicants from all states are eligible for Council consideration, but those residing and practicing in New York State will be prioritized. All members must be dedicated to the advancement of medical cannabis and its potential as a therapeutic tool and treatment option for clinical intervention, when medically appropriate.
