2026 CALEP Compensation & Utilization Survey

Demographics

The CALEP Compensation & Utilization Survey is the first study dedicated to establishing a long‑term foundation for market research and industry benchmarking within the land and energy profession. This inaugural report provides a comprehensive snapshot of the profession by examining employment responsibilities, compensation, and billing practices, offering critical insight into the industry’s current state and evolving needs. The survey explores key dimensions of the profession, including education, work environments, roles and responsibilities, and pay structures, while also identifying systemic gaps and emerging trends that may influence workforce sustainability, talent retention, and overall industry performance. As the first in a series of annual studies, the report establishes a baseline dataset that will expand over time into a robust, multi‑year resource—supporting informed decision‑making for employers, specialists, CALEP members, and land and energy professionals across Canada.

Beyond its analytical value, the survey serves as an important tool for workforce planning and recruitment. By providing objective insight into compensation and utilization practices, the data helps organizations better position themselves to attract and retain skilled land and energy professionals while highlighting areas where the profession can continue to evolve and strengthen.

Your participation is essential to ensuring the accuracy and credibility of this research. You do NOT need to be a CALEP member to participate. Every response contributes to a clearer understanding of the profession and helps shape its future direction. This study is collecting information specific to your employment status and work experience as of 2025. If you were retired or unemployed during 2025, please do not complete this survey. All data is kept strictly confidential.

The results of the survey will be available on CALEP's website in early 2027.
