Second Public Consultation - Bonsucro Production Standard for Smallholder Farmers

In 2025, Bonsucro returned to a full revision of the Production Standard for Smallholder Farmers. During August and September 2025, Bonsucro carried out a public consultation on the current Bonsucro Production Standard for Smallholder Farmers to understand what was working, what was not working, and what needed to be addressed in the new version. With the results of the first public consultation, Bonsucro has written the first draft of the new standard that we are delighted to present to you in this consultation.

The objective of this consultation is:  
  1. Make publicly available the first draft of the new Bonsucro Production Standard for Smallholder Farmers and explain the rationale behind its construction.  
  1. Receive feedback from stakeholders on the draft of the standard, focusing on understanding the impact of the new standard on the field, its feasibility, implementability and auditability.
How to check the new draft of the standard and make your comments on the new draft?  
  1. First watch this video and/or read this introductory paper, where we explain how this new draft was built and provide important information to understand the new structure of the standard and how to read this.
  2. Then download the draft of the standard. It is available on an Excel spreadsheet. First read the tab called Read First where you can find all instructions on how to analyze the draft. The Excel file has a column in each principle, where you can add your comments.
  3. After checking the draft and making your comments, you can submit the Excel file with your comments and reply to specific questions we would like to ask. The questions and button to upload your comments can be find in the next page.
Note: You do not need to submit your feedback right away. If you prefer you can complete it later. Once you complete the first page and go to the next page, you can click on the Save and continue later button in the upper-right corner of the page. You will be asked to enter your email address, and a link will be sent to you. You can use that link to return to this page at any time and submit your comments.

When checking the standard, please, think about its impact on smallholders’ farmers, its feasibility, implementability and auditability.  

This round of public consultation will be open from 3 March 2026 to 15 May 2026.
