What's in a Name? Redefining Localization for the Age of AI

Years ago, our industry moved away from using the term “translation” to describe what we do. It didn’t reflect the broader range of work that had become common. “Localization” became the new standard term, and in marketing, some teams started using “adaptation” or “transcreation” for creative content.

Today, amid the AI revolution, we find ourselves at another turning point. Many professionals on both the client and supplier sides feel that “localization” no longer fully represents the scope or value of our work.

Rather than trying to impose a new label on everybody, the GALA Program Committee wants to hear from you. All of you! This short survey is an invitation to share how you describe the work you do now, and how you think it should be described in the future.

Your input will directly shape the conversation at the WorldReady plenary session in Berlin. There are no wrong answers. We are simply gathering perspectives from across the industry.

Thank you for taking a few minutes to contribute and help us define the future of our profession.
