The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is seeking suggestions for experts to serve on the new Standing Committee on Oil Spill Research and Recovery. This Standing Committee will advise the National Academies' Gulf Research Program (GRP) on GRP activities in the event of a Spill of National Significance (SONS) in the waters along the Gulf Coast. This committee will identify and help prioritize potential GRP spill-related activities to ensure that GRP responses to a SONS are aligned with program goals and are scientifically defensible. The Standing Committee will also develop or refine questions and identify issues to help guide GRP decision-making at the time of such an event. This preparatory work will help GRP proactively develop informed action plans. National Academies staff will be looking to build a committee of approximately 7 volunteer experts.

We carefully consider alternative viewpoints when formulating advice, convening experts with differing experience and perspectives, providing oversight, and conducting all other activities, and strive to foster an environment where all can participate fully. We welcome your suggestions for a broad range of experts to work with us.
