The Gonyea Playfield Concept Design (outlined in the document above) aims to transform the park into a dynamic, vibrant, and inclusive outdoor community space. This project is designed to enhance the quality of life for local residents by encouraging outdoor activity, fostering social interaction, and strengthening the connection to nature. Planned improvements, as budget allows, include exciting new features such as:
  • A playground featuring a Play Mound and Nature Play
  • A multi-use loop
  • Two basketball courts
  • Two large flexible lawns
  • Park shelter
  • Enhanced seating and planting areas.
What's featured at the Play Mound (see page 2 by clicking the ">" arrow at the top of the page):
  1. Boulder scramble
  2. Hillside log steppers
  3. Hillside loops
  4. Hillside rope pull
  5. Embankment slide
  6. Hillside rolling and climbing
About Topographic Play
  • Hill play provides children the opportunity to move their bodies in different planes and against gravity, promoting vestibular and proprioceptive feedback to help overall orientation and position in space.
  • Ascending the hill requires increased core strength, motor planning, and balance.
  • Hillside play is also great for children with weaker muscle tone or children exiting mobility devices to explore crawling up and down the hill.
  • Once the top of the hill has been reached, children are greeted with a slide that allows them to soar back down to ground level.
What's featured at the Nature Play (see page 3 by clicking the ">" arrow at the top of the page):
  1. River source boulder
  2. Sand play
  3. Discovery: log seats and table in the trees
  4. River trail logs and rocks
  5. Trails through planting
  6. Tog steppers trail
  7. River trail cobble
  8. Log jam
