DSLBD's Ward 8 CIF BACK OFFICE SUPPORT SERVICES (Ward 8 CIF BOSS)
The DC Department of Small and Local Business Development (DLSBD) Ward 8 Community Investment Fund (CIF) Back Office Support Services (BOSS) offer trainings and consultations for Ward 8 business owners to help strengthen their financial skills, systems, and reporting practices, and improve their funding- and contract-readiness.
Back Office Service Provision: DSLBD’s Ward 8 CIF BOSS offers financial advisory services by experts on a variety topics.
All clients will attend a virtual Financial Focus Day (3 hours, 2 trainings, and 1 consultation with an expert) to learn how to tackle core financial functions for their particular stage of business and the owner's financial management skill level.
Then clients can sign up for additional free back office support services:
Offered in three formats:
- Trainings (instructor-led; in-person and virtual)
- Consultations (one-on-one and small group guidance; in-person and virtual)
- e-Courses (online, self-paced)
Focused on seven Financial management topics:
- Financial Foundations (budget creation, bookkeeping, financial jargon)
- Financial Processes & Routines
- Business Taxes & Reporting
- Business Strategy (Using Business Plan to Create a Funding Strategy)
- Financial Systems (Excel, QuickBooks, other app, and how to set up and use)
- Working with Contractors (Invoice creation, Contract financial components, 1099 filing)
- Financial Analysis & Storytelling (Projections, Telling Business Story with Numbers)
Who May Sign Up: Owners of Ward 8-based businesses that have:
- active incorporation as a for-profit entity;
- an active business license at a Ward 8 address; and
- proof of owner identity (there is no residency requirement).
If employees would like to participate, their owners must be approved as clients and then email Inno.ED@dc.gov to request staff participation.
How to Sign Up: Complete and submit this client request form. In this form, you'll be asked about the following.

- Your Business -- DLCP corporation file number, and business license number
- Owner -- Proof of identity in PDF or Image format. Allowable documents are:
- An active driver's license or ID card issued by DC DMV or other local government DMVs;
- OR an active Passport issued by federal government.
