The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is seeking suggestions for experts to participate in a Standing Committee on Department of War (DoW) Exposure Threshold for Blast Overpressure and Process of Determination. The standing committee will serve as a forum for dialogue with experts, stakeholders, and DoW representatives, providing informal input on evolving scientific and health-related needs to inform decisions made by DoW in developing occupational exposure limits for blast overpressure and related brain health concerns.

Expertise is sought in the following areas:

  • Physiological, neurological, or psychological effects of blast exposure (neurology, neuroscience, psychology, etc.)
  • Blast physics and biomechanics
  • Occupational and environmental health
  • Exposure and risk assessment methodology
  • Epidemiology
  • Other expertise important to the Standing Committee's task.


The National Academies value a wide range of perspectives to strengthen the quality of our work. We carefully consider alternative viewpoints when formulating advice, convening experts with differing experience and perspectives, providing oversight, and conducting all other activities, and strive to foster an environment where all can participate fully. We welcome your suggestions for a broad range of experts to work with us.
