Software Capitalization Approval Request

Before a software project may be capitalized, it must meet criteria established by University policy, in conformity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

To be eligible for capitalization, units must complete this form, answering all questions and providing required signatures, and a copy will be sent to Courtney Englehardt, Senior Director in University Administrative Accounting and Reporting.

Will the project result in either new software or modification to existing software that will enable it to perform tasks it previously could not perform?
If applied to existing software, will the project require new specifications or significant changes to existing specifications?
Does the project include maintenance of existing software?
If # 4 was answered "Yes," can the costs of the maintenance and enhancement/upgrade portions of the project be separated?
Are total, non-maintenance project costs expected to exceed $250,000?
