The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is seeking suggestions for experts to participate in the new consensus study committee on identifying promising health care financing practices for accessible and affordable contraceptives. The committee will conduct a study of programs that have used health care financing mechanisms to improve availability and affordability of contraception through Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, employer-sponsored health plans (private and public), and federal grants programs (Title V, Title X, Community Health Centers, Veterans Affairs, and Indian Health Service). The committee will review program design, barriers and facilitators impacting initiative outcomes, how health care financing impact affordability, integration of community involvement, and more. The study will seek to distill lessons learned from various initiatives across the nation, identify effective strategies, and provide evidence-based recommendations to inform policy, practice, and future program development.
Using these suggestions, National Academies staff will be looking to build a committee of approximately 12 volunteer experts in addition to collecting information for potential speakers, participants, and peer reviewers for any publications resulting from the activity.
