The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is seeking suggestions for experts to participate in the new study that will review the 2025 Report on Carcinogens Handbook on Methods for Conducting Cancer Hazard Evaluations. This Handbook includes tools, approaches, and guidance for the cancer hazard evaluation process of the Report on Carcinogens. The Report on Carcinogens is a congressionally mandated, science-based public health document. It is prepared by the National Toxicology Program within the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences for the Department of Health and Human Services Secretary. This cumulative report now includes 256 listings of substances that are known or reasonably anticipated to cause cancer in humans.
Using these suggestions, National Academies staff aim to build a committee of approximately 12 volunteer experts. Information is also being collected for potential peer reviewers for any publications resulting from the activity.
Based on the Statement of Task, staff are looking for expertise particularly in the following areas:
- Public health risk assessment
- Systematic review methods
- Toxicology
- New approach methods in toxicology
- Carcinogen mechanisms
- Carcinogenesis
- Environmental and/or occupational epidemiology
