Before you start your application, gather and/or consider the following information:
Project Type
- Is your community seeking assistance to develop a Safe Routes to School plan, or
- Is your community seeking funding to implement education or programming (i.e., non-infrastructure) identified in a local Safe Routes to School Plan?
Project Partners
- Check with principal(s) or school district administration to confirm their support
- Think about other partners and potential team members (teachers, public health professionals, parents, bike advocates, etc.)
- Gather letters of support
Community Information
- Has your community done any Safe Routes to School or active transportation efforts in the past?
- How have you or will you engage with underserved communities (low-income, those with disabilities, families of color, or English-language learners)?
School Information
- Number of students
- Title 1 designation
- Free and reduced lunch eligibility
- Approximate travel-to-school mode split. Check with the principal or school staff.
- Any past or existing Safe Routes to School efforts
