DFW Next-Gen Faith Research (Parent Informed Consent)

Parental Informed Consent

 

Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS) and NXT Move DFW (NXT) are partnering to conduct collaborative research on the current state of youth ministry across the DFW metroplex. The purpose of this partnership is to generate empirical data, identify critical needs and interventions, and equip local churches to respond more effectively to youth ministry challenges now, and in the future.

Participation & Procedures:

  • Parents will be asked to provide consent for their adolescent children to complete a 15-30 minute survey.

  • Youth are invited to participate in this study for three years, taking the same 15–30-minute survey once a year for three years (total of three times).

  • Families may opt out of completing the process at any time.

Voluntary Participation:

  • Your participation is voluntary.

  • You may refuse to participate or withdraw at any time (45 CFR §46.116).

  • You may skip any question you do not wish to answer.

  • You will receive no monetary compensation for participation.

  • You may have the opportunity to win a gift card upon survey completion.

Risks & Benefits:

  • This study is classified as minimal risk under Title 45 CFR §46.111.

  • No foreseeable physical risk is anticipated.

  • You could experience mild emotional discomfort when reflecting on your personal relationship with Jesus Christ. If this occurs, you may stop at any time.

  • Consultation and referral support will be available if stress or anxiety arises.

Confidentiality & Data Protection:

Your privacy will be safeguarded under FERPA, HIPAA, GDPR, and DTG IRB policy. 

  • Names will be replaced with pseudonyms. Personal identifiers will be removed before data analysis.

  • All electronic files will be password-protected.

  • GDPR Compliance: For EU participants, data processing is based on explicit consent under GDPR Articles 6(1)(a) and 9(2)(a). You may withdraw consent at any time, and your data will be deleted.

  • FERPA: If you are a student, your participation will not affect your academic record. Research data will not be linked to educational files.

  • HIPAA: If incidental health information is shared, it will be treated as confidential health data and protected accordingly.

  • Data Breach Protocol: In the unlikely event of a breach, you will be notified in accordance with GDPR Art. 33 and HIPAA requirements.

Rights of Participants: 

This study follows the Belmont Report principles of respect, beneficence, and justice, and aligns with the Declaration of Helsinki (2024 update).

  • You have the right to ask questions about the study at any time.

  • You may request a summary of findings once the study concludes.

  • You may request removal of your data up to the point of anonymization.

Your participation will contribute to...

  • A final report submitted to NXT Move DFW.

  • Academic publications and conference presentations.

  • Church leader resources for discipleship of emerging adults.

  • Chapel presentations and academic purposes at DTS and partner institutions.
