The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is seeking suggestions for experts to be considered for the membership rotation or other engagements with the Forum on Traumatic Brain Injury. The Forum serves as a neutral, cross-sector venue to advance recommendations from Traumatic Brain Injury: A Roadmap for Accelerating Progress (2022), discuss emerging issues and align actions, and improve science, care, and policy for TBI across the lifespan and in both military and civilian populations. Using these suggestions, National Academies staff will be looking to fill 5-8 open seats on the committee of approximately 35 total volunteer experts in addition to collecting information for potential speakers, participants, and peer reviewers for the Forum's activities. Based on the Statement of Task and the continuing membership of the committee, staff are looking for expertise particularly in the following areas:
- Discovery research, including injury biomechanics, neuroscience
- Clinical and translational research, including biomarkers, imaging, clinical trials
- TBI surveillance and prevention
- Lived and family/caregiver experience related to TBI
- Diagnosis and acute care, including prehospital, emergency/trauma, sports medicine
- Neuropsychiatry/psychology and mental health
- Rehabilitation and recovery after TBI
- Care models and health systems
- Health policy, payment, and economics.
- Other expertise not specified, but important to the Forum's mission
