
Student Employment at The Learning Centers (TLC)
Our student workers play an essential role in creating welcoming, engaging, and supportive learning spaces across all campuses and online - while strengthening their own communication, leadership, and academic skills along the way.
Student Worker Eligibility
All positions require that you meet student worker enrollment requirements. Refer to the Enrollment Eligibility Table for details.
Student Worker Positions
Desk Assistants
Provide administrative and front-desk support, serving as the initial point of contact for students utilizing our centers. They help make TLC inviting spaces for students to study and receive support. We currently staff desk assistants at the Oceanside Campus and Online in Zoom.
Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders
Work with a specific class and instructor, attend lectures, take notes, and facilitate group study sessions for students outside of class to help students strengthen their understanding of course material and prepare for exams.
Tutors
Work one-on-one and in small groups to help students build study skills and deepen their understanding of course content. Tutors may work in our centers or as embedded tutors in lectures and labs across a variety of subject areas. New for 2026–2027: In addition to our current support across many disciplines, TLC is planning to hire tutors to support students in international languages courses.
Writing Consultants
Work one-on-one with students on writing in any discipline - focusing on ideas, organization, and writing skills with the primary goal of helping students develop as writers. Consultants may work in our centers or as embedded consultants in writing classes.
Hours & Pay Rate
TLC student workers work an average of 6–10 hours per week (up to 19.5 hours total across all assignments), depending on availability and department needs.
MiraCosta's tiered pay scale for all student worker positions (based on student worker experience or total completed college semester units; quarter units will be converted into a semester equivalent):

If positions remain available, applications submitted after this date may still be reviewed for Fall 2026 hiring until all positions are filled. Applications received after that point will be held on an interest list for potential Spring 2027 hiring (interviews expected in December 2026).
