The ABIM Board of Directors is vigilant about upholding the principles and practices of high-functioning non-profit governance. ABIM is committed to including the broad spectrum of physicians practicing Internal Medicine in our governance.

Before you begin, here are answers to frequently asked questions and important dates:
- The Governance Committee will vet candidates throughout the fall and into early 2026.
- The full Board of Directors is expected to vote on new Directors no later than its April 2026 meeting. All Candidates will be notified after the Board's decision is final.
- The Director-Elect will be required to attend an all-day in-person Governance Orientation held at the ABIM offices in Philadelphia on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
- The Director-Elect will also be invited to attend (optional) the Board's June 8 & 9, 2026 meeting as a guest before the official Director term begins July 1, 2026.
- ABIM Directors serve three-year terms, which may be renewed twice.
