LOWELL SAFE STREETS FOR ALL
One-Way Circulation Plan Survey
In the Back Central neighborhood, the City is considering converting certain two-way streets to one-way traffic to discourage parking on sidewalks, reduce traffic conflicts, and improve overall traffic flow. Parking on sidewalks forces pedestrians to walk in the street, creating unsafe conditions. In addition, two-way travel on streets that are too narrow to accommodate both directions of traffic and on-street parking can hinder emergency vehicle access. Linden Street is an example of a roadway recently converted from two-way to one-way traffic in coordination with street paving and sidewalk improvements.
