APTA Safety and Risk Management Tour Sign Up

Please use this survey to sign up for one of APTA's Safety and Risk Management Seminar tours.

San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) has graciously agreed to host several tours in conjunction with the Safety and Risk Management Seminar in San Diego, CA. Tours will be offered on Tuesday, December 9, from approximately 1:15 PM to 4:30 PM PT.

Each tour has a cap on the total number of participants, so please sign up early.  You may only sign up for one tour. All tours are on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the cap on the total number of participants per tour is reached, we may use a waitlist if someone does not show up/cannot make it to a specific tour.

Indicate your tour preference by COB Friday, December 5, at the latest.  You may not be able to sign up for any of the tours after that date.


Tour #1 South Bay Bus Maintenance Facility Tour (limited to 50 people)
The tour will be from 1:15 PM to 3:30 PM.

Description:
On this tour, we will take a 25-minute bus ride to our South Bay bus maintenance facility.  The tour will highlight the new $8.5 million MTS overhead gantry system, capable of charging twenty-four battery-electric buses simultaneously. The charging technology consists of Heliox's Flex 180 kW power cabinets and Schunk's SLS 301 series Depot Charging Pantograph. The tour will include a charging demonstration of the system led by MTS Zero Emissions Vehicle & Sustainability Manager.

Tour #2 Operations Control Center and LRV Maintenance Facility Tech Tour (limited to 40 people)

The tour will be from 1:15 PM to 3:30 PM.
Description:
Join MTS for a tour of the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) Operations Control Center (OCC) and Transit System Security Dispatch Center, which are both fully staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year with personnel, including Customer Service Representatives, Controllers, Central Control Supervisors, and Security Dispatchers.   OCC personnel are laser-focused on system performance, customer service, security, and the safety of MTS passengers, employees, and the communities served by the rail network. The MTS OCC is committed to improving the customer experience for over one hundred thousand daily system users through close monitoring and use of CCTV, Centralized Train Control, radios, and SCADA technologies, creating an integrated transit network with the capacity to serve the San Diego region.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at the LRV Maintenance Facility. Maintenance Staff will detail preventative and corrective Maintenance activities and guide guests through the facility, including Wheel Truing, Heavy Maintenance, and Truck Shop, HVAC, and pantograph repairs, as well as the Paint and Body shop. Guests will also view each of MTS's current LRV and Streetcar fleets, including the legacy vehicles up close.

Tour #3 Midcoast Rail Extension Technical (Tour limited to 50 people)
The tour will be from 1:15 PM to 3:30 PM.

Description:
Join MTS and travel the Mid-Coast Extension along the Blue Line North on a Siemens S700 Low Floor Train.  The Mid-Coast extension opened on November 21, extending the Blue Line from the San Ysidro International Border to University Town Center in La Jolla. You will stop at some key stations, highlighting architecture and integrated transit connections. The 11-mile extension is a combination of elevated and at-grade track infrastructure with nine passenger stations and four park-and-rides. The Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) operates at speeds up to 55 MPH on this extension, offering fast, frequent, and direct service to major employment centers, restaurants, movie theaters, shopping malls, colleges, and hospitals.
