Call for applications: CPCJ Associate Editor

The Cleft Palate Craniofacial Journal is the premier peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary, international journal dedicated to current research on etiology, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment in all areas pertaining to craniofacial anomalies.

CPCJ invites applications for Associate Editor (AE) to help ensure scientific rigor, fairness, and visibility. The AE will contribute to peer review management, editorial decisions, outreach, and strategy. This position is offered as a one-year contract, with opportunities for renewal in subsequent years.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee assigned manuscripts through full peer review cycles in the CPCJ SageTrack (ScholarOne) portal, including assigning Section Editors, selecting reviewers, overseeing reviews, synthesizing feedback, and recommending decisions to the Editor-In-Chief (EIC).
  • Collaborate with Section Editors and editorial staff to ensure timely, high-quality decisions.
  • Uphold research integrity, ethics, and best practices; contribute to policy/guideline refinement.
  • Help recruit high-quality submissions (e.g., invited content, special collections).
  • Represent CPCJ at meetings; expand author/reviewer networks and journal visibility.
  • Monitor process and impact metrics (e.g., turnaround times, acceptance rates, citations).
  • Assist with editorial board recruitment/mentoring.
  • Support special projects and other tasks and initiatives assigned by the EIC.

Qualifications:
  • Active American Cleft Palate Craniofacial Association (ACPA) member status.
  • Strong research/clinical-research record in cleft palate/craniofacial anomalies.
  • Prior experience as peer reviewer and/or other editorial experience.
  • Proven ability to manage reviews and provide constructive feedback.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.

Time Commitment:
  • 15 hours per month.
  • Contracted position with a small stipend.

Applications will be accepted from October 7th through November 5th, 2025. Review begins after the deadline. Final selection will be made in consultation with Sage and ACPA leadership.
