Hepatitis C Treatment in People Experiencing Homelessness

Thursday, October 16, 2025 (4:30pm-5:30pm EST)

Description:
This training is designed to educate clinical providers on current hepatitis C screening and treatment guidelines and how to best support people experiencing homelessness to complete their hepatitis C treatment.

Speaker:
Abigail Hunter, FNP-BC, MSN, MPH, Surfpoint Recovery

By the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Acquire a basic understanding of hepatitis C (HCV) screening and treatment.
  • Learn how to support people experiencing homelessness to complete their HCV treatment.
  • Hone their engagement practices with people facing multiple social, medical and emotional challenges.
  • Remain engaged with people who are highly transient in the homeless service system in order to start and complete medication and return for SVR 12.

By the end of the presentation, participants will be able to:

  • ​Explain changes in hepatitis C epidemiology nationally, including among people of childbearing age and pregnant people. 
  • Recall current hepatitis C screening and treatment guidelines for people of childbearing age, pregnant people and children.
  • Describe the risk of gestational parent-to-child transmission of hepatitis C.
  • Understand the impact of hepatitis C on pregnancy.
