Call for Perspectives - Cabin Air Quality

Call for Perspective: Overall Aircraft Cabin Air Quality

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine are seeking perspectives and information for a new study examining the potential impacts of fume or smoke events on air quality in passenger aircraft cabins. Specifically, the committee will examine information about the air contaminants present in passenger aircraft cabins during smoke and fume events, the health impacts and risks to flight crews and passengers, and the frequencies, durations, and likely causes of smoke and fume events.

National Academies staff are collecting suggestions for potential public session speakers, written information, or peer reviewers for any publications resulting from the activity. Please note that open sessions with the committee will be conducted virtually (via Zoom) and will be on-the-record, livestreamed, and audio and video recorded. Any written materials provided to the committee will be maintained in a public access file.
