**Please note this PL series is designed for middle school staff. :)
Selecting a high school can be challenging for many families yet serves as a pivotal milestone that will inform how students are engaged in learning, on-track to graduate, and ultimately enroll in a postsecondary option of their choosing. Recognizing the positive impact Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs have on graduation rates and the educational outcomes of Multilingual Learners/English Language Learners (MLs/ELLs), you are invited to join this professional learning community to learn about CTE and how to ensure ML/ELL students and families understand CTE programs as an option for them, as well as its benefits.
The Office of Multilingual Learners is collaborating with the Office of School Enrollment and the Office of Student Pathways to launch this 3 -part series: Connecting Multilingual Learners to Career and Technical Education. Middle schools with a minimum enrollment of 5% MLs/ELLs are strongly encouraged to participate.
During the sessions, participants will: 1) understand the benefits of Career and Technical Education as a high school pathway for Multilingual and English Language Learners; 2) build understanding and capacity around the unique needs, assets, resources, and key strategies to supporting English Language Learners and their families during the high school application process; and 3) receive support around developing a CTE recruitment strategy for multilingual and immigrant students.
Register by October 3, 2025. All sessions will be hosted from 11:00am - 12:30pm on the following dates.
October 15 - Deep dive into MLs/ELLs and supporting them through the school application
October 22 - CTE as an Option for MLs/ELLs
October 29 - Career Ready Roadmap and Action Planning
