Falls and Frailty Quality Standards Advisory Committee: Open Call Survey

Ontario Health strives to promote health care that is supported by the best available scientific evidence. One of the ways we do this is by producing quality standards, a go-to resource for clinicians, patients, and the public to help them understand what high-quality care looks like. Quality standards focus on aspects of care that have been deemed a priority for quality improvement in the province (e.g., where there are large variations in how care is delivered, or where there are gaps between the care provided in Ontario and the care patients should receive). The quality standard package includes: a quality standard, a guide for patients, families, and care partners, a case for improvement (slide deck), a technical specifications document, and a placemat.

Ontario Health is working in partnership with the Provincial Geriatrics Leadership Ontario to develop 2 new quality standards ‒ on falls and on frailty ‒ for adults (18 years of age and older) living with frailty or at risk of falls or frailty, with special considerations for older adults (defined as those at least 65 years old) and their care partners. The quality standards will focus on care for adults with falls and frailty in all health care settings (such as acute care, emergency departments, primary care, regional geriatric programs, long-term care, palliative care, and other home and community care settings). The quality standards aim to support the delivery of quality care for adults in Ontario who have experienced a fall or are living with or at risk of frailty.

We are looking for committed volunteers who are interested in joining the Quality Standard Advisory Committee to guide the development of 2 quality standards for falls and frailty in adults. We are seeking adults who are experiencing frailty or have experienced falls, or their family members and informal care partners, as well as clinicians, administrators, and researchers from across Ontario who can advise us on the development of this quality standard.
