Posttraumatic Growth Dissertation Survey

Welcome and Instructions for Participation

Thank you for your interest in this research study. The purpose of this survey is to better understand how individuals think about and process distressing or adverse life experiences, and how these thought patterns may relate to psychological growth.

Before you begin, please read the following instructions carefully:
  1. Inclusion Criteria: You will first be asked a few ‘yes/no’ questions to determine if you are eligible to participate. These include your age, language, and whether you have experienced a subjectively distressing or adverse event. You do not need to share any details of the event.
  2. Consent Form: If eligible, you will be presented with a consent form that explains the nature of the study, including potential risks and benefits. Participation is entirely voluntary, and you may stop at any time.
  3. Adverse Event Screen: You will be asked to confirm that you have experienced something personally distressing or adverse. This is not a clinical screening, and no details will be requested.
  4. Survey Measures: You will then complete two short questionnaires. These will ask about your thought patterns following the event and any psychological changes you may have experienced since.
  5. Mental Health Resources: At the beginning and end of the survey, you will be provided with a list of mental health resources in case you experience any emotional discomfort or wish to seek support.
This study is designed to be reflective and strengths-based, focusing on how people make meaning and grow through challenging experiences. Your responses will remain confidential. Thank you for your time.
