The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is seeking suggestions for experts to participate in the new activity tasked with convening a summit on Reenvisioning the Future of STEM Research at Emerging Research Institutions (ERIs) to elucidate the unique roles these institutions serve within the STEM research enterprise and national efforts to increase research and development capacity. The summit will explore ways to facilitate engagement with communities and sectors across the United States in academic R&D and will discuss strategies to improve the coordination of STEM research at ERIs. Using these suggestions, National Academies staff will be looking to build a committee of approximately 7 to 10 volunteer experts in addition to collecting information for potential speakers, participants, and peer reviewers for any publications resulting from the activity. Based on the Statement of Task, staff are looking for expertise particularly in the following areas:

University administrators - from ERIs
University administrators - other Higher Education Institution
Industry leaders
Experts on STEM research
Experts on non-R1 University development experience
Experts from community-based organizations
Former federal officials
Program evaluators with experience with R&D ecosystems

The National Academies value a wide range of perspectives to strengthen the quality of our work. We carefully consider alternative viewpoints when formulating advice, convening experts with differing experience and perspectives, providing oversight, and conducting all other activities, and strive to foster an environment where all can participate fully. We welcome your suggestions for a broad range of experts to work with us.
