Cottage Housing Survey

What is Cottage Housing
A type of housing that combines the privacy of single-family living, with the sense of community and amenities of dense living environments. Functionally, cottage housing is a group of homes built around a shared yard or park. This group of homes will have one area for parking and have pathways to the individual residences. Each residence has its own private open space or yard, and orientation of front doors are pointed towards the shared open space or the street.

Why are we working on this:
Cottage Housing is part of several goals in the comprehensive plan to increase housing affordability and access. Ten cities and towns in Pierce County currently have some form of cottage housing regulations. Cottage housing provides a unique combination of detached homeownership while creating smaller units within a compact urban form to allow for individual units to be profitable for developers.
