Report an Animal Bite or Animal Exposure-Midland County, MI

  • Bitten by an animal in Midland County, MI.
    • NOTE: IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION, SEEK MEDICAL CARE IMMEDIATELY! 
    • Depending on bite severity: Call 911, proceed to the nearest emergency room, or contact your medical provider.
  • Exposed to a bat or another animal that could carry rabies in Midland County, MI.
Our staff will review your responses and contact you to discuss recommendations.
  • Do not delay care if you have been bitten by an animal resulting in broken skin and require medical attention. 
  • If you have been bitten by a wild/feral and can safely trap/contain the animal, DO NOT LET IT GO before speaking to a member of our staff.
  • If you find a bat in your home/work/indoor location where you have spent time, DO NOT LET IT GO before speaking to a member of our staff.  
  • DO NOT bring a live animal (including bats) to the health department.
    • Contact Animal Control (989-832-6856) or Midland Animal Clinic (989-631-0220).
In all situations:
  • We provide individualized recommendations for post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) based on the exposure situation.
    • The MyMichigan Emergency Department is the only location in Midland County that offers post-exposure prophylaxis. 
  • If human health risk for rabies is present, it is important to have the animal (if possible) so it can be tested for rabies.
