ChandlerListens: Virtual Workshop

Introduction

The first Chandler General Plan Update questionnaire reflects strong community support for the city’s existing vision and core planning principles. A significant majority of respondents found the 2016 Vision Statement to still be relevant (78.2% rated it as "Relevant" or "Somewhat Relevant"), and core values such as Focused Stewardship (77.1%), Strong Community Foundation (77.6%), and Strategic Community Building (68.4%) were also deemed highly relevant. Community members expressed particular appreciation for Chandler’s recreational opportunities, sense of community, and cultural diversity, identifying these as top qualities of the city.  As part of the results in  first questionnaire, the city’s Residential Advisory Committee (RAC), developed five preliminary vision statements.

In terms of priorities, residents emphasized the importance of schools and education, environmental sustainability, health and well-being, and economic competitiveness. Specific focus areas highlighted by the community included revitalizing aging neighborhoods (especially Downtown Chandler), improving public safety, expanding transportation options (with safer roads and trail connections), and enhancing community aesthetics through streetscape beautification and public art. Housing affordability and the availability of diverse housing types were also key concerns.

Demographically, the majority of respondents were long-time residents, homeowners, and aged 36 or older, with most identifying as White, but responses showed a degree of ethnic and economic diversity as well.
