WHAT IS YOUTH & GOVERNMENT?  
  • Youth & Government (Y&G) is a mock government club for high school students across Illinois focusing on civics and leadership.  
  • Students get to choose from a variety of programs and roles that are fundamental to Illinois and U.S. government.  
  • Students participate in a mock election process electing statewide officers.  
  • Along with in-person regional sessions, all students gather at a statewide General Assembly at the State Capitol in Springfield in March each year.  
  • Students will have the opportunity to be involved in local civic efforts. 
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?  
  • Any high schooler.  
  • Anyone interested in gaining hands-on experience pertaining to civic leadership.  
WHEN DO WE MEET?  
  • An information session will be held later this year with more information on meeting times and Y&G. More information will be sent to those who submit an intake form. 
  • Recurring weekly or bi-weekly virtual and in-person meetings agreed upon by registered students. 
IS THERE A COST?  
  • YMCA Youth & Government costs $425. There are scholarships available! We will not turn anyone away due to the inability to pay.
