Background:
This conference is designed to foster the professional identity of translational, clinical, and NHP Early Stage Investigators (ESIs) involved in HIV vaccine research and support them reaching career milestones.
ESIs participating in the conference will learn skills needed to enhance their ability to contribute widely to the field, and will engage in mentoring and networking for career development.
Eligibility Requirements:
- These travel awards are specifically for early stage investigators (ESIs).
- Applicants must be within ten (10) years of completing their terminal research degree, medical residency, or equivalent.
- Applicants must be actively engaged in preclinical, translational or clinical HIV vaccine research. We especially encourage those conducting research with NHPs to apply
- This year, travel awards are only available for travel within the United States (your origin and destination must both be within the United States).
- Within the domestic flight restriction, this opportunity is open to all eligible persons regardless or race, sex, or other identity.
- Clinicians and clinical investigators must demonstrate evidence of research activities e.g. publications, grants, training, etc.
These awards will support participation in both the Translational HIV Vaccine Early Stage Investigator Conference and the NHP AIDS Symposium.
These awards include:
- Round-trip transportation/airfare
- Hotel accommodations for the duration of the conferences
- Per diem payment for meals that are not provided
Awardees are expected to attend the full duration of both conferences, including any ESI-focused events at the NHP AIDS Symposium. Awardees must also complete any conference evaluation forms distributed by the organizers.
Airfare and hotel expenses will be paid directly by conference travel funds, while other expenses will be reimbursed. All travel expenses must be in accordance with HVTN travel policies.
