This questionnaire follows the initial open house where the community was invited to share feedback regarding historic preservation in Steamboat Springs. Open House #1 featured interactive opportunities for community members to provide input regarding multiple aspects of historic preservation in Steamboat Springs. Community members had the opportunity to share what aspects of historic preservation matter most to them, identify which parts of Steamboat’s history are significant to them, articulate which architectural designs they feel contribute to the character of the community, and provide feedback regarding what improvements in the historic preservation process they feel would benefit the City.
The Open House found that community members expressed desire for recognizing Indigenous history and the distinctive architecture of the City. Preferred architectural character included National Folk, Craftsman, and vernacular styles thoughtfully integrated with more modern styles. Community members expressed dislike of the demolition of historic resources and desired altered policies for designating historic districts, more consistency with other City policies, and guidance that integrates preservation with sustainability technologies.
The following questions are intended to further articulate community ideas that were shared during the Open House.
