2025 Foundation of the AAGL: John F. Steege Mentorship Award Application

The John F. Steege Mentorship Award, established in 2016, recognizes outstanding AAGL members who have provided at least ten years of support and mentorship to future generations of minimally invasive gynecologic surgeons. Dr. Steege famously created one of the AAGL’s earliest Fellowships with the objective of training academicians. Many of his original fellows have remained in academic positions with several going on to establish their own fellowship programs. This award honors that tradition of mentorship and is supported by an educational grant from CooperSurgical.

Nominations or self-nominations will be accepted. Self-nominations must include a letter of reference(s).

An FAAGL designated committee will review the applications and select a winner. The winner chosen will receive recognition at the Foundation of the AAGL's Awards Ceremony during the AAGL Global Congress on Minimally Invasive Gynecology and a commemorative plaque. Award recognition and scholarships will be determined annually by the FAAGL Board of Directors.

Award Eligibility:

The nominee must demonstrate significant contributions as a mentor to others and meet the following requirements:

Provided ten plus years of support and mentorship to future generations of MIG surgeons.
Must be a member of AAGL.
Must be a Practicing Physician or Retired Physician
Board Members who are currently serving on the FAAGL Board of Directors are not eligible for nomination.
If selected, the winner must attend the Foundation of the AAGL’s Awards Ceremony held during the AAGL Congress in Vancouver, BC, Canada (November 2025).
