Turtle Island Workshop 2025

Turtle Island Workshop 2025

The SEIU-West Education Department is pleased to invite members to apply for the above-noted two-day workshop. The course will take place at Wanuskewin Heritage Park, just outside of Saskatoon. We will hold two sessions: August 26 and 27 AND August 28 and 29, 2025.
Turtle Island Training is designed for any active SEIU-West member in good standing. If you've attended in the past, rather than applying, please encourage your co-workers to attend.
Participants will learn: Indigenous Culture and History, Colonialization, Treaties, Land claims and Land Encroachment, Indian Act and Assimilation Policies, Truth and Reconciliation, White Privilege and Allyship.
SEIU-West will cover the costs of 25 participants per session. Expenses will be reimbursed to a maximum of two-days' lost wages/honorarium. Lunch will be provided, and accommodations and mileage will be reimbursed according to our policies.
Be sure to apply by July 21st, 2025! After the application deadline, those who are selected to attend will be sent a confirmation with more details about the event. You will need to RSVP to hold your seat.
8. Are you currently working? *This question is required.
We’d love to have you attend our course, but if you indicated that you are on Short-Term Disability or Workers Compensation, it’s risky for members to attend. If you don’t claim the income from coming to the conference correctly, they may charge you with fraud and cause you to never qualify for either WCB or DIP again. You also need to ensure that attending this course fits within your abilities and is approved by your Disability Worker, etc.
How would you like to proceed?
Thank you. Take care.
