Needs-Based Certification Examination Fee Assistance Pilot Application

Based on feedback from members of the physician community, ABIM is launching the Needs-Based Certification Examination Fee Assistance Pilot Program. ABIM's goal is to continue evolving to better meet the needs of new physicians and the communities they serve. The fund provides needs-based support for the Internal Medicine Certification Exam fee, whereby those that qualify and are selected will receive a 50% credit on the Internal Medicine Certification Exam fee. The pilot program is available to US and international medical graduates.

Eligible candidates for the pilot program include:
  • First-time candidates for the ABIM Internal Medicine Certification Examination that will be administered in 2026.
  • Candidates who indicate specific financial needs or hardships that impact their ability to pay the ABIM examination fee.
  • Candidates who demonstrate good standing in their program.
All details shared in the application will remain confidential and be used to evaluate the pilot’s success in reaching physicians facing financial hardship. If you are awarded a fee credit, you may be asked to verify this information after fee credits are awarded as part of the process to evaluate and improve the program in subsequent years. By completing the application, you agree to take part in this verification and evaluation process if awarded a fee credit.
