3. Route: I understand that the route will include rugged terrain, including boulder fields, steep scree/talus slopes, narrow paths with modest exposure, and at least one sloped snowfield (with microspikes). I attest that I am comfortable and confident moving on this kind of terrain. *This question is required.

4. Preparedness: I understand that this trip requires excellent aerobic conditioning, balance, and the skills and gear to pack appropriately and carry a day pack with confidence for up to 11.5 miles and 3000 feet gain per day on sometimes very rugged terrain and with unpredictable mountain weather. I certify that I will be prepared with the experience, skills, conditioning, gear and attitude to meet the requirements of the trip.

5. High Altitude Risk and Communication: I understand that this trek involves high altitude (multiple days in a row over 15000 feet) and that participants face an elevated risk of altitude illness including the potential for fatal pulmonary or cerebral edema by traveling for this extended period at these altitudes. I commit to following all doctor and trek leader instructions to minimize altitude illness risk, to being open and honest with my trip leaders about ANY prior altitude illness symptoms or pre-existing conditions that could be dangerous at altitude, and with proactive sharing of symptoms along the trek that could indicate the onset of altitude illness. *This question is required.

Teamwork: I understand that this is an extended group expedition and a commitment to build a cohesive group, to actively work together, to be flexible and sensitive to others, and to help each other succeed under demanding conditions and under the stress of an unfamiliar culture, is critical to the success of the trip. I understand that this is a group trip and that participants will look out for and support each other on the trail. Pace, daily start-end times, route and side trips will be driven by the needs of the group and conditions on the ground.

8. Special Training Requirements: I commit to participate fully in training (including self-paced reading and a quiz) on altitude illness symptoms and prevention and to read the provided materials and be familiar with the principles and pitfalls of safe decision making in high-hazard outdoor situations. *This question is required.

9. Remoteness: I understand that, once we start the trek, it could take several hours to reach a medical facility and facilities closest to our trekking locations may be very limited. *This question is required.

10. Potential for Gastrointestinal Illness: I understand that we will be traveling in areas and under conditions in town and along the route that could put me at elevated risk of gastric illness, so I will be very careful with my personal hygiene and follow all leader and guide instructions to minimize the risks. I recognize that even with a high standard of care I may develop significant symptoms that could impact my ability to complete the trip. *This question is required.

11. Adjustments: I understand that, AT ANY TIME, if the route, weather, or other conditions become dangerous, or one or more participants exhibit signs of medical conditions that don't allow them to continue, the group may exit the hike early or modify the route. {Two emergency horses are available to help less seriously ill people to continue on the trek during recovery, and for seriously ill people to exit to medical care.}

12. Accommodations: I understand that this trip will require sharing of 2-person spartan rooms with another person in our group (this will be with your spouse/partner or assigned to another person of the same gender to help people get acquainted and to avoid anyone feeling left out by people picking their friends), and that showers and other amenities may not be available for several days at a time.

13. Food: I understand that the variety of food available and the ability to meet special dietary preferences may be limited.

14. Leadership: I understand that safety and well-being of participants comes first and the itinerary and route may change without prior notice based on conditions. While participant input will be valued, the Mountaineers trip leader and our expert local guides will be the ultimate decision makers.

15. Responsibility: I understand that the Mountaineers trip leaders are not guides and that I am responsible for knowing the route and where I am along the way at all times.

16. Behavior: I commit to behave during the trip in a careful and safe manner, to communicate to the leader promptly about any illness or injury, and to put my health and safety and that of my fellow group members first even if this means having to turn around or exit the trip early.

17. Fitness and Medical Conditions: I commit to providing a doctor’s certification of medical fitness if requested, and to disclose to the leader in advance of the trip about any recent injuries, surgeries, allergies, medications or medical conditions that could impact me on the trip. *This question is required.

18. Respiratory Illness Prevention Expectations (including Covid-19): Because illness of any one Global Adventure participant can quickly spread to other group members and spoil their adventure, I understand and agree to adhere to conservative practices including but not limited to:

up to date COVID vaccination & boosters;
Conservative virus-transmission behavior during the week before and during transit to the trip including masking at airport and in planes and avoiding crowded indoor spaces;
COVID self testing if anyone in the group experiences symptoms of a respiratory virus; and,
for any participant testing positive or with serious respiratory symptoms,they will be expected to wear a mask, practice extra hygiene, and isolate from the rest of the group as much as possible until their fever is gone without medications and their symptoms are mostly gone.

20. Travel Documents: I understand that I will be required to hold up-to-date travel documents, international medical insurance, and emergency evacuation insurance for the trip, at my own expense. The evacuation insurance should be sufficient to get me back to the hospital of my choice in the United States.
