The National Academy of Engineering is seeking suggestions for experts to be considered for the membership rotation or other engagement with the Steering Committee for Pathways into Engineering. The mission of the Pathways Steering Committee (P-SC) is to strengthen the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) outreach programming for youth, their families/caregivers, the educational community, and other interested parties. NAE youth outreach programs (including EngineerGirl and EngineerTeen) are intended to inform, inspire, and provide opportunities for marginalized youth (with a focus on K-12) and to encourage them to consider the rewards of an engineering degree and career. This committee is charged with overseeing the work of the NAE suite of youth programs, guiding and supporting new and continuing initiatives, and informing the NAE of opportunities to better support the mission of youth outreach.
Using these suggestions, National Academies staff will be looking to fill 3-5 open seats on the committee of approximately 12 total volunteer experts in addition to collecting information for potential speakers, participants, and other forms of engagement.
Based on the Statement of Task and the continuing membership of the committee, staff are looking for expertise particularly in the following areas:
- K-12 STEM education practice, policy, and/or research
- Learners and child development
- Programs to engage historically underserved youth in STEM
- Philanthropic support/giving for STEM programs
- Web design and online engagement
