Culture2030Goal - Towards a Revised Draft

Welcome!

Welcome to the Culture2030Goal campaign's survey on a potential culture goal. Since 2013, the campaign has advocated for the inclusion of culture as a distinct goal in the global development framework. The campaign brings together Arterial Network, Culture Action Europe, the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), the International Council on Music (IMC), the International Federation of Coalitions for Cultural Diversity (IFCCD), the International Federation of Library Associatins and Institutions (IFLA) and United Cities and Local Governments Culture Committee (UCLG).

In 2022, on the occasion of the UNESCO MONDIACULT Conference, we launched the Zero Draft of a dedicated or ‘standalone’ goal on culture. Entitled ‘Culture Goal: to ensure cultural sustainability for the wellbeing of all”, it offers ten potential targets, similar to those included in the SDGs. Since then, we have seen the idea of such a goal endorsed by UNESCO and others, and made the focus of the MONDIACULT 2025 Conference.

We are therefore working to update and improve our draft, based on the input of the wider culture and development communities. Your inputs to this survey are essential to achieving this goal.

None of the questions are obligatory, but your answers are strongly appreciated. There are between 17 and 27 questions, depending your answers, and it may take up to 15 minutes to respond, depending on how much you want to add. You can also save your responses part of the way through and return to the survey.

Please also feel ready to share the survey with your own networks and anyone else who you feel can contribute.
1. How far do you agree with the following statements?
Space Cell Strongly disagreeDisagreeNeither agree nor disagreeAgreeStrongly agree
A standalone culture goal will cause other stakeholders to recognise the importance of culture in sustainable development
The lack of a culture goal in the 2030 Agenda leaves me less likely to engage with the SDGs
A standalone culture goal will better mobilise arts, culture and heritage practitioners for sustainable development
A culture goal should cite culture as both a goal in itself and a contributor to wider development
A culture goal should take a broad approach, including different aspects of culture
It is possible to have both a dedicated goal and to integrate culture into the delivery of other goals
A standalone culture goal will cause culture to be dealt with in a silo
It is enough for there to be a general reference to culture in the introduction to any future development framework
A culture goal would positively impact the achievement of other Sustainable Development Goals

In these, they treat culture as a distinct policy area of work towards the overall goal of sustainable development, alongside those which are already recognised explicitly in the SDGs.
