The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is seeking suggestions for experts to participate in the new consensus study, Corrections and Retractions: Upgrading the Scientific Record, which aims to recommend improvements to the processes used to correct errors in scientific articles, including editorial expressions of concern, errata, corrigenda, retractions, and other actions. A final report from the committee will present findings and recommendations to enhance the transparency, timeliness, and consistency of corrections in scientific literature. This study welcomes input from institutions, entities, and individuals with relevant expertise or experience in the global scientific research enterprise. Using these suggestions, National Academies staff will build a committee of approximately 12-15 volunteer experts in addition to collecting information for potential speakers, participants, and peer reviewers for any publications resulting from the activity. Based on the Statement of Task, staff are looking for expertise particularly in the following areas:
- Research integrity and compliance officers
- Scientific journal editors
- Research integrity watchdog organizations
- Individuals with expertise in data management and open science
- Legal experts and attorneys
- Institutional leadership involved in cultivating and improving the culture of science
- Research administrators, department chairs, and laboratory leadership
- Sleuths and independent investigators
- Research funders
- Editors and Publishers
- International representation from the areas of expertise listed above
